Who Should Take the ADAS, PPS and/or ATS?
These surveys were created to
collect data about youth populations in a community. They should be given to
youth in a classroom or other group setting, as part of a needs assessment or
evaluation for prevention programs within your region. The Children’s version
of the ADAS and the American Tobacco Survey can be given to students in 4th
to 6th grade. The Adolescent version of the ADAS, the Prevention
Planning Survey, and the American Tobacco Survey can all be given to students in
6th to 12th grades. However, 6-7th grade students may
need a longer than average class period to complete the ADAS with the Prevention
Planning Survey. The surveys have shown high reliability
and validity with all of the major
ethnic populations of the United States (European-American, African-American,
Mexican-American, Puerto Rican-American, Native American, and Asian-American
youth). They have high reliability and validity with both male and female
students.
Please note that these surveys
are not intended as clinical diagnostic tools. If you or someone you know has a
problem with alcohol or other drug abuse, please contact the Center for
Substance Abuse Treatment for a referral to someone who can help you, or contact
Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous for information about support groups
in your area.
