R.M.B.S.I.’s History and Mission
Rocky Mountain Behavioral
Science Institute, Inc., was established in 1966 by a group of social science
researchers who wanted to provide practitioners and researchers with relevant
psychological surveys and testing instruments.
In 1983, Drs.
Eugene Oetting, Fred
Beauvais and Ruth Edwards, working
through R.M.B.S.I., obtained a grant from the
National Institute on Drug Abuse to
develop the American Drug and Alcohol Survey and
its reporting service. The goal was to use their expertise to develop a survey
on youth substance use that could be easily used by prevention organizations and
communities.
Since 1987 when the ADAS first
was offered to community-level prevention workers, this service has become the
primary focus of the company, along with the
Prevention Planning Survey, American Tobacco
Survey, and the ADAS Core Measures Short Form.
We have provided these surveys and data analysis to thousands of communities
throughout the United States, surveying millions of youth.
We believe that efforts to
prevent youth substance abuse and violence are most effective when they are
planned on a strong base of factual, community-specific information. Our
mission is to support prevention workers by providing that information.
It is our goal to provide an
impartial service to aid in collecting accurate detailed information on youth
violence, drug use, and the risk and protective factors associated with these
behaviors. Our impartial service allows communities working with a variety of
models for youth development and substance abuse prevention to more accurately
measure their effectiveness.
You can rely on us to provide
solid information, extraordinary customer service, fair pricing, and a sensible,
research-based approach to the issues of youth substance use and prevention.
